IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE THIS COURSE AS PAPER-FREE AS POSSIBLE, DR. RJ WILL POST ALL READING ASSIGNMENTS ON THE COURSE WEBLOG. (A.K.A., “blog”). PLEASE SEE http://ndhu-efl.blogspot.com FOR A COMPLETE LISTING OF COURSE READINGS AND MATERIALS. Please consult the blog religiously!
Course Description:
The class is the first semester of a one-year course that is very dear to Dr. RJ’s heart. In many ways, this course will be an attempt to serve as a review of what you might have learned in earlier composition courses you have had in the past. We will begin with an investigation of the TOEFL/GEPT examination and writing and structure component and then discuss in detail the steps necessary for the production of English in the academy. We will then continue to learn the basics of academic research by viewing continuously the course weblog that has been constructed by the instructor for this purpose. Once the AW@RD, The NDHU Language Center Academic Writing and Research Division, is fully established, students will be required to spend “some” time (to be determined according to group consensus …) in the new facility. NOTE: STUDENTS WHO ARE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE AFOREMENTIONED – DUE TO SCHEDULE OR INTEREST - WILL BE ALLOWED TO PERFORM ALTERNATIVE WRITING TASKS.
As the NDHU Language Center AW@RD Online Writing Laboratory is, slowly but surely, constructed over the course of the semester, we will be performing various “overviews” of online writing assistance from a variety of sources. By the end of this class, students should not only have an awareness of what it means to compose for an academic audience, but they will also be familiar with various writing-related test assessment instruments (TOEFL & GEPT).
Grading Criteria:
Participation, Attendance, Global Preparation 10%
Group-Work & Presentations 15%
Quizzes, Test Preparation Work & “THE UNEXPECTED” 15%
Scheduled Writing Assignments & AW@RD 40%
Final Portfolio Writing Project 25%
GOOD LUCK & GOD(S) BLESS!

I agree that teachers should make learning enjoyable and fun for students.Because I think that since there are schools and teachers, they have the responsibilities to teach students well. However, whatmeans teach them well? it no doubt means that teachers should teach students well about their textbooks.Nevertheless, how do teachers do to teach well as I said. There's so many classmetes are poor at history in my senior high school;however, they are not smart enough, but because they feel that the teacher's class are so boring what the teacher can do is just read the book to class. In the other hand, all my classmates enjoy our Chinese class very well and we all had a great grade. All my classmates describe that what the Chinese teacher can do are not only read the book, but tell us the background of the composition, the writing reason of this composition and some interesting story about this composition.SO,to make students learn well,I agree that teachers should make learning enjoyable and fun for students.
My experience writing English at NDHU might be a struggle. Because when I first attend my writing class, I began understood that writing an academic English essay is totally different from the high school writing.
For example, writing an academic English essay has to prepare, prepare for what you want to write, and make it as anessay logically and full of structure. However,
writing a high school composition doesn't has to prepare for such a long proceed because you write it in a short time and for exams-less mistake you make, more grade you will be given. As the result, I cann't write an academic English essay well because I always made mistake on building my structure for my essay and I always can't write my essay logically for I always thinking in Chinese to write an English essay. In addition, writing an essay needs much time to do, but I always write my essay on the day before paper due. So,
my writing experience last year could be described as
a terrible experience.
However, writing English did help me in writing my Chinese research paper
