A Nice English Learning Website
We Taiwanese people are not native English speakers, so we easily make lots of words using mistakes. Take myself for example; when I speak or write a composition, I am often confused about the usages of the adjectives and verbs. There are some words that English speakers will rarely use, but I had never known. On Emily’s blog, I find a perfect English learning website, www.usingenglish.com, which provides lots of grammar usages, new English phrasal verbs and idioms.
There are four main areas on this website for English learning: words using, English articles, writing skills, and ESL quizzes. Therefore, if you are ill about words using, you can click on the Students part and try to well use in phrasal verbs. Reading plenty of English articles such as journals and news will prove a lot in your reading comprehension. In this website, you can easily have amount of articles to read on Teachers area. What’s more, if you want to figure out how to improve your writings and essays, surf this wesite on English Language Resources area carefully. You will find the skills and example essays here. In addition, after learning English grammar and words using, you have chances to evaluate how much you really understand. Click on Students, ESL quizzes, then enjoy it!
In short, the website,www.usingenglish.com, provides tremendous benefits about learning words’ usages, reading abilities, and writing techniques, designed for not native English speakers. This is a wonderous and perfect place to improve your English abilities. Surf it right now!
I really love this BBC website which I found in Katy’ s blog. Like other English learning sites, it contains various catalogs and what I found most interesting are “Listen” and “Grammar” sections.
The “Grammar and Vocabulary” section gives answers to common grammar question and words on different topics that may confuse us in writing. To avoid repeating the same words in a paragraph, we usually find another synonym which may be totally the same in Chinese meaning but not exactly in English to substitute the original word, that may arise unexpected jokes. For me, learning English for many years though, I still often make mistakes while using of insure/ensure/assure or affect/effect such similar vocabulary. Here, it explains the differences clearly and gives us an example each to practice. Second, it lists many interesting idioms we may quite often hear, such as paint the town red means enjoy yourself by going to bars or clubs and out of the blue means suddenly and unexpectedly. Besides, it introduces other useful grammatical concepts about “verbs and tenses”, ”adjectives and adverbs” etc. And in the other part of this section is Lingo language what would be very interesting for foreigners. Like the following sentence:“That hit the spot!” is an informal expression meaning you've eaten well and can't eat any more, and another example: ” It cost an arm and a leg!” means it costs a lot of money.
In the “Watch and Listen” section, I especially like the Video Nation part. we could watch the video clips testing our listening comprehension, also discover facts about life in the UK. Moreover, this section provides Language Fix for practicing grammar and vocabulary skills. I think it is really cool having chance on-line to meet people from across the UK and hear what they say about their world around them.
There is one more thing: "http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/index.shtml" it’s your turn to try surfing it. That would be very helpful not only for improvement of English skills but also for having fun!
It is on Katy's blog that I found this helpful English learningwebsite:http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/business/index.shtml"Learning English", which is the name of the page, provides organized categories and cool study materials for learners. The site basically incorporates four sections of learning English: they are News English, Business English, Watch and liten and Quizzes respectively.
The first section is the explanation of vocabulary in the news. Here you can have a strongand firm training on reading comprehension.
Then there comes the next one:Business English.Although most people might feel this section boring, to your surprise, it is not at all! This category covers topics from writing a cv to job interview techniques, and from business travel to working abroad. It is vivid and interesting because the site make the section a listening comprehension which teach your listening ability and business english at the same time.
Now it caomes to my favorite section: Watch and Listen. The reason why I like this part is mainly because I can learn English via pop music! The site possesses tons of songs of popular singers ranging from Nelly, Avril Lavigne to George Michael. It's really a great help for English learner to absorb from Enlish lyrics!
Eventually, this is th
When teacher ask us to set up our own website, I think it is really cool. we can find a lot of imformation in our own blog, it is also can share with our classmate. As we already found a lot of website to learn how to improve our english. i think it is also useful for us.For example, we can practic our english listening from the website easuly. we also can know a lot of imformation in the website.I also see a lot of website about how to improve our writing.how to write a paragraph?how to write a good essay. This website from emily's blog. I also found this good website in my own website.
It is quite special for we students to have such an interesting meeting like this. Mr. and Mrs. Johanson are finely cultivated and both of them have a sweet disposition. During the two hours, we immersed in a gleeful and relaxed atmosphere just like Robert used to give us. This class is definitely a gift from our writing teacher! To be honest, what I got from Robert’s parents is beyond what I expected before. On the one hand, I learned how to improve my writing. On the other hand, this was a class about sharing experiences and teaching us a life lesson.
In regard to writing methods, things like word selection and “keep it simple and stupid” were mentioned. Moreover, choosing a topic that one interested in and pay attention to the flow of an essay are also crucial. Most importantly, Mr. Stanley referred to “period.” To keep an essay crisp and simple, one should always use “period” to indicate a completed sentence as well as to make the essay understandable. What’s more, carefully use the period also can let the readers easy to digest and prevent the writer form going off the topic or make a digression.
Besides, Mr. and Mrs. Johanson talked about their life experiences, which we were curious about. As a high-esteemed layer, it is surprising that Mr. Stanley can make fun of him through a joke and sang to us like we are his family members. He talked about the way he applied his dream using a positive outlook, which benefit me a lot. Ms. Johanson is charming, too. She taught us that if you want to be successful, you would need to persevere and have the determination. This impressive class is really advantageous and helpful.
All in all, what I got from the class given by Robert’s parents is abundant. The reason why they can win over our admiration is that they are truly easygoing and willing to share their lives without holding back.
This website "English Daily" that Claudia found is very helpful and there are many important tips for us to put them into use. To improve our English ability, we should devote our times to make it better. The truth is, it always takes efforts and pains. Thanks to today’s advanced technology and civilization, now we have plenty of choices and ways to pick up what we want to learn or improve about English. This website serves as a good example for learning what you are interested in so that learning becomes efficient and favorable.
Why this website is so attractive? First of all, there are eleven links for different purposes, and it’s obvious, I mean, you won’t miss that information because it is so clear and plain. Each of the catalogs has distinct features in order to fit what you interested in or what you need. I prefer “Advertisements” and “Movie Lines” because I will not feel any painful stress or impatience when I am reading them. Second, I like the way the website-maker arrange it as well as the format. By the way, the website-maker also uses different colors to highlight the important parts, which makes it easier for memory and reading. Last advantage I want present is about the part “Common Error.” More often then not, we do not use authentic English because we are ESL students. Through reading them over, you may learn how to use a rather simple sentence to describe complicated situations.
In conclusion, I think I will go to this website very often since it is interesting and I truly get a lot information I want. As to English writing part, I recommend “Glossary of Correct Usage.”
(I already posted this comment last week on Claudia's blog.)
Last week, we have special guest in our composition class because
Robert invites his parents to join our class. His father is a lawyer and his mother is a nurse. Before I met Robert’s father the ways I think to lawyer is that it must be a serious person. However, it is wrong ways to thought because his father is a funny lawyer. They bring a lot of joke for our class. We also can learn a lot thing from his parents during this two hours.
At first, he explains how to find a good book to read and learn how to improve our writing skill. He also gives us a lot of suggestion about how to try in our
life. He mention about word selection is very important during we writing our paper. I really agree with what he said because I have this kind of problem in my writing process. Sometime I try to express what I want to talk about and then, I can’t find the correct word to use. It is very terrible let me continue to finish my paper. He also mention about when we do our paper just keep it simple stupid way to write. I think it is also the easy way to let us know how to write our paper. He also suggests us to
image a good word come from a good book. It will help us to use in our paper. The most important part is as we all know we have to write our paper by the well organize
and also have a thesis statement in our essay. This is the way let us pay attention in our paper.
Another point, let me impressive words come from Robert’s father is some encourage us in our daily life. He said, “I don’t think I can” just say, “I am going to try”. When I heard this word let me felt very familiar with that word, at that time I just remember this word also come from one of my freshmen teacher. Every times, I felt frustrated he also gives me energy to solve my problem. I also try the way how to face my problem. We all know, although, trying process are really difficult. After we try we can feels the sense of achieve. I like this kind of feeling it really great.
During this two hours, let me learn a lot of interested things from his parents. I also thank Robert invite his parents to come to our class. It is not only let
us learn a lot of information but also have a funny class at that day. Hopefully, Robert’s parents can come to our class and share their precious experience with us.
